Travel up a backcountry road into Wells Gray Provincial Park for a safety talk/orientation. Your guide will outline the required protocols to ensure that everyone has a safe and pleasurable river trip. Your guide will also explain how you'll work together as a team to propel the raft down the Clearwater River (if you prefer, some seats do not require you to paddle).
The first few hundred meters of the river provide some friendly water, where you'll have an opportunity to practice the paddling commands. Then the excitement begins as the raft rushes by an island through the first rapid.
The Wall and the Funnel Chute section may not be the biggest waves on the trip, but these wild waves are certainly the most technical sections, where you'll have to work together to avoid certain river hazards. Following the first rapids, you'll paddle down to the Hole-in-the-Wall and the Bear's Den, which have interesting features resulting from the forces of high water erosion.
Afterwards, you are back into some of the best waves of the trip. Hawaii 5-0, Tsunami and Buckaroo are famous for continuous explosive Class III breaking and standing waves. The Super Screamer seat is a must to try in this section!
Take a break between waves to take a side hike (spring and early summer) to Candle Creek Falls, where you can actually walk right behind the majestic water curtain and even jump into the rushing pool of water at the right water levels. It is often a highlight for many people.
As you return to the waters, you'll hit the Big Green Monster section, which is a wild train of waves that is really worthy of its name! Afterwards, raft through Osprey Rapid, a set of waves identifiable by the active osprey nest at the beginning of the rapids.
During the river swim portion of the trip, jump into the river and experience some of the waves up close and personal. This is of course fully optional and is done by floating on your back, feet first, connected to each other by holding hands, while timing your breathing at the bottom of the waves.
At Bubbly Rock Canyon, you are invited to leap from an 8 meter (25 foot) high cliff. This is done during the months of August and September, when the water levels are more suitable for such an activity.
The final stretch of the rapids, otherwise known as the Otter Stretch, has an awesome wave train at lower water levels. At this point in the river trip, take the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful moment meandering down the river canyon while slowly traveling out of the Park into the town of Clearwater.
