River tracing, also called canyoning or river trekking, is an outdoor adventure activity combined hiking, swimming, climbing and jumping along the river. The crystal clear water and moderate temperature lead Hualien County to be the most popular place for river tracing. Following to the instructions of our experienced tour guide, even though you are beginner, you can enjoy the beauty of natural river.A driver guide will pick you up at your hotel in Hualien City and apply permission for river tracing in police office on the way to your destination. As reaching the starting point, we need to change our clothes into safety outfit, including helmet, wetsuit, river tracing shoes and life vast. Shortly after starting off, we will trek into crystal clear water with the temperature between 18-24 °C (64~75 °F). The wetsuit will protect us from the coldness.
After swimming over several natural deep pools, we will reach a water curtain cave, where the water splash over us from all directions. There are a lot of hidden cave along the river and sometimes we can see local aborigines fishing by the stream. Our tour guide will find a great place for lunch where everyone can swim and take a relaxing nap on marble boulder. The lunch is the traditional Taiwanese rice ball and hot drinks
After lunch break, we will do exciting waterfall climbing. When you stand on the top of waterfall, you can feel the sense of accomplishment. The last challenge is the pool jumping, it’s super refreshing at the moment you drop into the water. After river tracing, the driver will take us to enjoy some local snacks before dropping us at hotel or Hualien train station.
From May to October is suitable season for river tracing. If you want to avoid crowd, you can choose to book the trip in low season or weekdays.
