Join us for this tour that takes you to visit two of the most popular attractions in Xi’an - the UNESCO-listed Terracotta Army and Horses Museum and Banpo Village. To ensure that your feet aren't exhausted from your travels, enjoy a foot message that we arrange for you!Around 8:00am we will pick you up from your hotel in downtown Xi’an, and drive to Terracotta Army and Horses Museum. It is one of the most significant archaeological excavations of the 20th century. They were discovered by local farmers in 1974. Life size terracotta figures of warriors and horses arranged in battle formations are the star features at the museum. They were made to represent Qin Shi Huang’s imperial army in order to protect him in the afterlife after he is buried. Different pits have different figures – ranging from military personnel to musicians, acrobats, and strongmen.
In the main and most impressive vault of erracotta Army and Horses Museum, see figures arranged in typical battle formation in 11 columns comprising of officers, soldiers holding spears and swords, and others steering horse-drawn chariots, as if ready for one last battle. If you’d like, explore the museum exhibits displaying artifacts and a film on the fascinating history of the mausoleum. After the museum you will stop by a Xi’an Arts and Crafts Factory to see how the terracotta army statues are made, and have the opportunity to buy some for your family, friends, or yourself.
Later you will go to a local restaurant for lunch, and then visit Banpo Neolithic Village, an archaeological site containing the remains of several well-preserved Neolithic villages dating back from 6,000 to 9,000 years. The settlement was surrounded by a moat, with the graves and pottery kilns located outside of the moat perimeter. Many of the houses were semi-subterranean with the floor typically a meter below the ground surface. The houses were supported by timber poles and had steeply pitched thatched roofs. Artifacts recovered at the Banpo Village indicate that the society here followed a matriarchal structure. The village is a great introduction to Neolithic life in this part of China.
After walking around for a couple hours, your feet will be in need of a foot massage before heading back to the hotel. Relax and feel rejuvenated! After the massage, you will be taken back to your hotel.
