A 2-day trek to Machu Picchu, where you will pass by lush plantations of coffee and fruits and hike to Putucusi Mountain. Your tour includes accommodation and a professional guide.
Your 2-day trek begins with hotel pickup in Cusco in the morning. You will then head by vehicle to Ollantaytambo and board a train to Aguas Calientes. You will check into a hostel and get ready to start the hike. The trek, which lays close to Machu Picchu, takes you first to a lush zone of old plantations of coffee and fruits to later bring you to a thick cloud forest where the splendid Mandor waterfall is located.
This 12 meter high waterfall is a result of melted water of the nearby sacred Yanantin mountain. Later on, another experience awaits you as you hike to Putucusi Mountain. To get there, you follow paths surrounded by orchid and bromelia's beds as well as butterfly swarms. This area is also a habitat to mammals such as the spectacle bear and hundreds of bird species, many of them endemic. The trek is challenging as it includes many rocky steps and several vertical wooden ladders, the largest measures over 30 metres.
Finally, you'll reach Putucusi (a budding zucchini/courgette in Quechua native language). Putucusi is a 2,560 metre (8,400 ft) high round-shaped mountain situated on the opposite, north-east side from Urubamba River to Machu Picchu. Its summit offers epic, breathtaking views of Machu Picchu, surrounding mountain peaks and valleys. The summit sits in the clouds and seems almost surreal.
On the second day, you will have breakfast and then hike for two hours to Machu Picchu. Once there, you will enjoy a guided tour and then be able to explore the place on your own or climb Huayna Picchu mountain (must be booked in advance). Finally, you will return to Ollantaytambo and then be taken by van back to Cusco.
