The museum complex itself once belonged to Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich, son of Paul I, and was purchased by Alexander III at the end of the 19th century to be made into a museum. Today the museum consists of several famous and gorgeous buildings. On this tour you will visit Mikhailovsky Palace, which contains art collections from ancient times to the 19th century, and the Benois Wing, where the famous Russian avant-garde collection is on display.
Later your guide will take you to The General Staff Building, belonging to St. Petersburg’s most famous architectural monuments, which was constructed according to architect K.I. Rossi’s design in 1820-1828. Before the February Revolution in 1917, it housed supreme state authorities of the Russian Empire.
