Datong is one of the most ancient city in China with more than 3000 year history. It used be the capital city for the dynasties,so you will find lots of culture heritages in this city. This is 2-day self-guided tour with private transfer from Beijing. The package is also attraction entrance tickets and 2 lunches inclusive. You will be able to explore the prosperous historical and cultural relics, including Yungang Grottoes, Hanging Monastery, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda and Nine Dragon Screen. Day one: (L)

Your driver will come to pick you up at you hotel in Beijing at 8:00am, and your will start your journey to Datong directly. It's about 350 Kilometers away from Beijing (4.5 hours driving time). You will enjoy the beautiful scenery on the way to get there.

12:30pm, you will have local handmade sliced noodles for lunch, and it's a very popular meal in Northwest region of China. After the lunch, You will visit Yungang Grottoes (3 hours) where is listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site since 2001. Fifty-three grottoes remained at Yungang, and contain over 50,000 Buddihist statues and stretch for about 1 km east to west.

Then, you will visit Nine-Dragon Screen. There are three pieces dragon screen in China, and this is the biggest one in China(45 meters long and 6 meters high). The 426 azure stones that compose the dragons also keep their gloss and grandeur. The 2-meter-high bottom is lit up with 41 pairs of playing-with-pearl dragons. It's with more than 600 years history already.

After the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel. (at your own cost; you could book it on line, or your driver can assist you in finding one with your budget).

Day two: (L)

After checking out from the hotel in the morning. You will be heading to Hanging Monastery( around 1.5 hours driving), which was built in 1,500 years ago.

The Hanging Temple is one of the main tourist attractions and historical sites in the Datong area. This temple is notable not only for its location on a sheer precipice but also because it is the only existing temple with the combination of three Chinese traditional religions: Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. The structure is kept in place with oak crossbeams fitted into holes chiseled into the cliffs. The main supportive structure is hidden inside the bedrock. The monastery is located in the small canyon basin, and the body of the building hangs from the middle of the cliff under the prominent summit, protecting the temple from rain erosion and sunlight. Coupled with the repair of the dynasties, the color tattoo in the temple is relatively well preserved. It's listed in the “Time” magazine as the world's top ten most odd dangerous buildings in December 2010,

The lunch time, you will enjoy a traditional local food.

In the afternoon, you will go to the Yinxian County to visit the famous Wooden Pagoda. Based on Liao Dynasty structure, Ying Xian Wooden Pagoda was built in 1056. The wooden pagoda is one of the planet´s oldest wooden buildings. Not a single nail was used in the construction of the nine-story, 67m-high structure, which has thus far survived seven major earthquakes.

After the tour, you will be transferred back to Beijing around 4.5 hours.
