On the tour, you will discover the history of wine in this essential region and enjoy some great wine tastings with Syrah-based appellations (Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph) and Viognier-based appellations (Condrieu).
The tour starts with a 9:15am pickup from your hotel in Lyon. Your guide will drive you to the south of Lyon (40-minutes drive) and then all along the vineyards.
Your first stop will be the archaeological site and museum of Saint Romain En Gal, where you will be introduced to the wine industry during the Roman era. This includes a special wine tasting of 'antique' style wine.
Next, head to a winery for some wine tasting. Your guide will explain the French « AOC » label system which is based on soil, origin and grape variety. You will enjoy some of the greatest wines of the region made of Syrah (Saint-Joseph, Côte-Rôtie) and Viognier (Condrieu) grapes.
Afterwards, have lunch in a restaurant where local dishes will be served (own expense). You will be able to try some flavorful wine and food pairings. Your last stop will be a second winery where you will see a cellar dating back to the 18th century and taste the wine of the estate.
After the tour finishes your guide will drop you off at your hotel.
