Let an expert historian lead you and your private group along the Berlin Wall on a 3-hour morning or afternoon tour. Discover what life was like behind the Iron Curtain as you trace the wall's route, see surviving remains and learn about its construction, expansion and infamous collapse in 1989. Customize the tour to your interests, and stop at Berlin Wall memorials, landmarks, 'ghost stations' and public artworks for a sense of how the wall has shaped Berlin’s identity.
Your 3-hour tour departs from the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse. Following your guide, a local historian, walk the route of the wall through the city center while tracing the structure's long, complex history. As this is a private tour, you can enjoy personalized commentary, ask as many questions as you like and customize the exact itinerary to your interests.

From 1961 to 1989, the Berlin Wall divided the city in two: the free West and Soviet-dominated East Germany. The concrete wall and its 'death strips' were more than just a physical barrier; the Iron Curtain represented an ominous symbol of the ideological divide between Western Europe and the Eastern Bloc.

Walking side-by-side with your guide, gain insight into the complicated social, cultural and political history of the wall, and hear stories about daily life in Berlin during these turbulent times. Pass former checkpoints and patrol stations, see preserved observation towers, and visit several memorials, exhibitions and artworks calling to mind the scale and nature of Berlin's division. Two exhibits are particularly eye-opening: the symbolic rabbit art along Chausseestrasse street and the Nordbahnhof S-Bahn ‘ghost station,’ once deserted and guarded by West Berlin forces.

The drama culminates with the wall’s collapse in late 1989 and the end of the drawn-out Cold War. But the story doesn’t end there. On your way back to the Berlin Wall Memorial, where your tour ends, enjoy a thought-provoking discussion with your guide about how the wall has shaped the identity of modern Berlin.

Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required.
