Your guide will pick you up from your Nile Cruise or hotel in Aswan and start to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Abu Simbel temple located 280km to the south of Aswan. Abu Simbel temples are of few ancient Egyptian sites to have largely escaped damage from past invaders. Your private tour guide brings the history of the site back to life, telling you the story of Ramses II and Abu Simbel temple. During his 67 years of reign Ramses II littered Egypt with monuments, two temples at Abu Simbel were built, the Great temple dedicated to the gods Amon re and Re Horakhty and the smaller temple dedicated to his legendary wife Queen Nefertari and the Goddess Hathor. In 1968, both were threatened by the rising water due to the building of the High Dam. So, the two temples were dismantled and relocated to higher ground, more than 65m above the original ground level. Now, they are a wonder of modern as well as ancient engineering.
Explore the mighty twin temples, considered among the most inspiring temples in ancient Egypt. Then enjoy driving back for 3 hours to your Nile Cruise or hotel in Aswan.
