This full-day, private tour will take you around the south of Lisbon. You will visit monuments, the maritime coast and end at the beach of Meco. After a pick up from your hotel, cross the April 25 Bridge over the Tagus River, where you will visit the Shrine of Christ the King.
Next up is Cape Espichel, bordered to the south and west by the Atlantic Ocean and to the north by national road 379 and College of Clerks. It marks the southwestern edge of the Setúbal peninsula. There is a Portuguese lighthouse on the peninsula, as well as the Shrine of Our Lady of Cape Espichel, also known as the Shrine of Our Lady of Mua Stone.
Portugal has several notable dinosaur fossil trackways, some of them classified as natural monuments. The stone deposits of Mua and Lagosteiros, next to Espichel Cape, are one such example. There are tracks of several different dinosaurs including sauropods, theropods and ornithischians. A legend associated with dinosaur footprints on the peninsula are that they were left by the Virgin Mary, who climbed the cliff mounted on a giant mule. This eventually led to the building of the shrine. Only in the early twentieth century were the footprints recognized as dinosaur footprints.
Continue on to Meco Beach, where you will have free time for lunch at one of the restaurants (own expense). You can also change into your bathing suit to swim or dive in the Atlantic Ocean.
