Combine a Santorini wine tour with a restaurant meal in the countryside on this 5-hour private excursion. After visiting a volcanic winery and a family-run wine cellar that dates to the 19th century, sample up to eight glasses of local varietals and learn about wine production on the island from your private guide. Finish the experience by traveling to a traditional restaurant, and enjoy a 3-course meal with more of the local wine.
Start your day with a pickup from your Santorini hotel or port, and travel to two of the island’s traditional wineries: a volcanic winery and a family-run wine cellar that’s been in operation since the 19th century. As you travel by air-conditioned vehicle, chat with your private guide about the history of the island’s wine production, and learn about the different varietals that you may try throughout the day.
Producing some of the most distinctive wine in the Mediterranean, Santorini owes its success largely to aspa, a unique blend of volcanic soil that gives the wine its rich minerality and light flavor. Grapes are grown in baskets close to the ground rather than on trellises, allowing much-needed moisture from the island’s minimal rainfalls to be retained effectively.
Explore the cellar and vineyard at the volcanic winery to see grapes growing in the unforgiving island conditions, and then explore the cellars of the family-run winery to learn about winemaking through the ages. See the old cellar and grape-stomping room where the family still crush the grapes by foot, and then sample up to four different varietals such as assyrtiko, nykteri and the rich vinsanto.
After your cellar tour, travel to a restaurant, nestled in the countryside. Head inside and enjoy a meal of three courses of Santorini specialities alongside a bottle of house wine and bottled water. See the Itinerary for a sample menu.
Having finished your meal, meet your guide outside the restaurant and end your experience with a hotel drop-off.
