See the sights of the Kathmandu Valley over the course of 6-hours. The Kathmandu Valley has often been described as an open-air art gallery with thousands of sacred shrines in brick, stone, metal, and wood scattered throughout it. Start your day with a pick up from your Thamel accommodations by your English-speaking guide. Bhaktapur Durbar Square, an old Newar town in the east corner of the Kathmandu Valley, will be the first stop on your journey. Close by is the Golden Gate, which leads into Mulchok Court, home to the Taleju Temple.
Afterwards, head to Boudhanath Stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is the most important pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhists. They come the site by the thousands during the winter festival to pay their respects. Next, will be Swayambhunath or Monkey Temple, a 2,500-year-old Stupa that overlooks the Kathmandu Valley. This Temple is another very sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site. Finally, arrive at your last stop, the Pashupatinath Temple, the most sacred of the 275 Shiva temples worldwide and oldest in Kathmandu. The Bagmati River runs alongside the temple, and is the site not only of pilgrims who bathe in the river, but also contains a special area where members of the royal family are cremated.
End the day with a drop off at your hotel.
