Put your feet up and let your personal chauffeur drive you along this beautiful area and giving you some tips about the place. You will be enchanted discovering how many interesting and non-conventional places Italy has to offer! The earliest documentation of a "Chianti wine" dates back to the thirteenth century when viticulture was known to flourish in the "Chianti Mountains" around Florence. Visit the beautiful Chianti area!
The first stop is in Castellina and Monteriggioni. During the tour you will visit the town of Castellina in Chianti where there are many shops selling typical products and elegant cafes, enjoy a nice walk along the main street.
Along the ancient walls, go through an impressive underground tunnel used by the guards in the past, now called Via della Notte (Night’s street) which today is a fascinating tunnel with shops and restaurant. The tunnel offers a stunning view of the Chianti area all over around with various degrees of light from the small windows along the tunnel.
The tour continues with a visit to a picturesque winery where they can take part into a guided tour of the cellars to understand the production phases of this great nectar. Tasting of all the wines produced accompanied by sliced salami, garlic bread and cold cuts. The tour ends with a visit to the impressive fortress in Monteriggioni. Its intact fortified wall presents 14 towers along which the guards used to walk and patrol the walls and 2 gates, one called the Franca or Romea Gate which faces Rome and the other known as the Florentine Gate since it heads toward Florence.
The current structure of the village is essentially the original one, the only changes it went through date back to the 16th century when the towers were lowered and some earth accumulated at the base of the walls and another dating back to 1921 when 3 of the 14 towers were reduced to the level of the wall.
