Visit the bays Judges, Hobson, Okahu, Mission, Kohimarama, St Heliers, and Achilles Point. One Tree Hill (Maungakiekie) a 597ft volcanic peak in Auckland. The mountain and its surrounds were home to the Te Wai o Hua tribe from the early 1700s. The largest and most complex volcanic cone/earth fortress known in the Southern Hemisphere.
Cornwall Park is the legacy of Sir John Logan Campbell and he left the park to the city of Auckland. The 220 hectares are now an Auckland Council administered park and working farm. Campbell bequeathed the obelisk as a centennial tower to Maori.
Acacia Cottage built in 1841 was relocated in 1956 to the park. It is one of the earliest surviving timber buildings in New Zealand.
Driving along Tamaki Drive we visit the Michael Joseph Savage Memorial. Australian born Michael Joseph Savage was New Zealand's first Labour Prime Minister. Architect of the welfare state, kind and friendly he never married and is buried on Bastion Point. He was considered to be New Zealand's most loved Prime Minister. Amazing views are to be had of the Waitemata Harbour, Auckland Harbour Bridge and Rangitoto Island.
Visit 'the bays' Judges, Hobson, Okahu, Mission, Kohimarama and St Heliers. If it is your lucky day you may see dolphins out in the harbor. Achilles Point is our last stop along here and definitely worth the walk either to the lookout or the hike up to the right of the lookout.
