It was originally built as a Gothic fortress guarding a nearby town of Benesov at the end of 13th century by Tobias of Benesov. It followed the model of French castles and at the 17th century it was converted into a renaissance mansion, only to be, in the 18th century, rebuilt into a baroque residence by Vrtba dynasty. Its most famous inhabitant was the archduke Fratisek (Franz) Ferdinand d'Este, a successor to the Austro-Hungarian throne.
After you visit the interiors of the castle, you can enjoy the baroque Rose Garden with a Greenhouse nearby. Once you are ready, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
