Arrive at Plitvice National Park around 10:30am. The first lake is almost 2100 feet (636 m) above sea level and the last one is 436 feet (133m) below sea level; they are linked by waterfalls and cascades.
The lakes are divided into two groups. The Upper, consisting of 12 lakes, are formed of dolomite rock, wise and surrounded by a peaceful landscape. The Lower, 4 lakes, which are formed from limestone, are smaller and lie below high rock cliffs. The color of the water in the lakes is also a phenomenon. Depending on the density of the plankton and minerals in the water and the angle of the sun, the water varies in color from blue to green to grey.
You will have the day to explore the lakes and the rest of the park at your leisure. At 4:30pm you will head back to Plitvice, stopping in Skradin around 6:30pm for pictures and a break. You will arrive in Split at 7:30pm.
