Sri Lanka’s picturesque old capital and cultural sanctuary Kandy brings a fascinating experience to a visitor. Situated on the banks of delightful, tree-lined lake with green wooded mountains as a backdrop and the magnificent golden roofed Dalada Maligawa as the centerpiece, Kandy has its own irresistible charm.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Kandy at 8am and transferred to the Royal Botanical Gardens. Once the pleasure gardens of 14th century Kandyan queen, now is one of the best gardens in Asia with over 4,000 tropical and subtropical flora, including spice and herbal garden as well as an orchids collection.
After Botanical Gardens at 1pm you will visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants located at Pinnawala village. At 3pm you will head back to Kandy and on your way will visit the Spice Garden. In Kandy you will have some time for shopping during city tour and also will get a chance to watch the cultural show starting at 4:30pm.
At 6pm after the cultural show you will continue your tour by visiting Tooth Temple (Sacred Relic of the tooth of Buddha), a Buddhist temple in Kandy. It is located in the Royal Palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy. Since ancient times the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site mainly due to the temple. At the end of the tour you will be transferred back to your hotel at 8pm.
