Start the tour of visiting the town of Nanxiang at your preferred time. A private guide and driver will pick you up from your downtown Shanghai hotel lobby and begin the 1-hour drive to Nanxiang Town. The first suggested stop will be at the classic garden, GuYi Garden, which was built during the Ming Dynasty, it is a beautiful spot to stroll around or simply enjoy some tea from a local shop. Take time to enjoy the view of the water pond while in the garden.
About a 5-minute ride distance, it is the center of the old street area. Along both sides of the street, vendors of old craft shops and restaurants are waiting for your visit. The old street in Nanxiang (pronounced ‘Nanxiang lao jie’) is another wonderful sight to experience, and is somewhat similar to what you may come across in other water towns in Jiangsu province such as Mudu, Tongli, and Xitang.
