Start your day off like a local with a ride on the slow-moving commuter train. Marvel at the historic buildings, local neighbourhoods and vibrant street markets while rubbing elbows with Yangon residents as they hop on and off the train. Proceed to the harbour to discover Burmese metal handicrafts as well as to observe local vendors loading up their daily shipments of coconuts, sugarcane and various different kinds of bananas.Join this private half-day tour and get a glimpse into the daily activities of Myanmar’s biggest city. The day will start off after we pick you up at the hotel (or any preferred meeting point) and drive towards the Yangon’s Central Rail Station.

Embark upon the local “Circular Train”, which runs from Yangon’s main railway station around to various neighborhoods in town as well as some on the borders surrounding the city itself. This train travels at a deliberately slow pace, which provides you with time to really enjoy your surroundings and to get a clear overview of the city. (The entire train ride takes about 20 minutes. Please note that the trains are very simple and used by many locals during the day).

You will disembark at Kyee Myin Daine station. It is one of the most beautiful station buildings remaining in Yangon. From there, you will take a short 10-minute trishaw ride through the local neighborhood. At this hour of the morning, the streets will be alive with the vibrant bustle of activities from young children heading off to school, folks grabbing bowls of noodles on their way to work to nuns and monks going door-to-door collecting their daily alms. This middle-class neighborhood will give you a representative glimpse of everyday life in Yangon.

We will continue on to the Shan Road Market to find some interesting and novel merchandise here. Walking among the stalls, you will find colorful fruits, green vegetables and fresh meat while chatting with the friendly vendors.

We proceed to the harbor of Yangon for the next highlight of your trip - the Banana Market! Experience the morning chaos of a busy port as coconuts, sugarcane and all different kinds of bananas (i.e. red bananas) are being loaded up for daily distribution. You will then move on to the “metal market,” where you will learn all the different techniques and tools used for building pagodas and other handicrafts.

There are unique features and traditions to most countries and cultures; in Myanmar, drinking tea is one of them. In order to experience this important part of Burmese culture, you are encouraged to visit any of the local “teashops.” Soak up the atmosphere and observe locals having a relaxed chat with one another while discussing the day over a cup of tea.
