The ancient Shri Digamber Jain temple of Sanganer is 16 km from Jaipur and is the jewel of Sanganer. The ancient Shri Digamber Jain temple has beautiful carvings that are comparable to the Dilwara temples of Mount Abu that were built in many phases. Last phase of this spectacular temple was completed in 10th century A.D., according to inscription of V.S. 1011 in one of the pylons (Toranas). The temple is seven stories high and has sky-high 'shikharas' (spires) and the inner sanctum is a stone shrine with eight sky high Shikharas (Pinnacles).
After the visit at the temple you will continue to witness the traditional art of hand block painting. Sanganer is famous for its fine hand block printing in subdued colors and hand block printing was first patronized by the royal family. The Sanganeri Print is visible from small flower motives like stylized sunflowers, Narcissus, roses, and other flowers of luxuriant foliage like daturas, rudrakshas, and arkas.
Lastly, take a look at one of the most well-known items constructed in Rajasthan, blue pottery. What was once only the luxury of the rich, today has become a reasonable piece of ornamentation. Today the items made in blue pottery are available in many colors like pink, yellow and green. Tourists should not at all miss the experience of blue pottery, it is unique in appearance. The Jaipur blue pottery, prepared from Egyptian paste, is shiny and low-fired. Some of this pottery is semi-transparent and generally ornamented with animal and bird designs. The range of items is primarily attractive and includes ashtrays, vases, coasters, small bowls and boxes for trinkets. The use of blue polish on pottery made from Multanimitti, or Fuller’s earth, is an imported technique, first introduced by Mongol artisans who combined Chinese finishing technology with Persian ornamental arts.
