From the moment you are picked up at your hotel or the easy meeting point you will experience one awe-inspiring site after another. All the amazing city sights are brought to life along the way by our knowledgeable native English-speaking guide on this full day private walking tour dedicated to your group alone. Suitable for experienced travelers and small philosophers alike, this is a wonderful introduction to one of the worlds great capitals.A full day private tour of all the main Athens sites providing more time than a half day tour to explore each one at a more relaxed pace and including the New Acropolis Museum in the itinerary.
From pick up at your hotel or the easy meeting point, we head strait to the nearby Acropolis entrance passing the magnificent Roman theater & the ancient theater of Dionysus which witnessed premiers of some of the most famous writers of the golden age. Ascending the stone steps we reach the pinnacle of Greek antiquity, the Parthenon and various temples on the Acropolis while hearing about its turbulent history and the mythological struggles of the gods. After plenty of time to take photos and contemplate this amazing site we descend through the olive trees to find the wide and pretty pedestrianized street of Dionysiou and enter the New Acropolis Museum to see its many masterpieces.
After lunch we arrive at the Temple of Zeus and Hadrian’s arch with an insight into the important Roman occupation of the city before visiting the Olympic stadium to hear about the fascinating origin of the modern Olympic games. Continuing to the former Royal Palace and National Gardens we explore this green oasis. Filled with trees and plants, beautiful ponds, ancient ruins, and many hidden beauty spots, this a special and surprising place to discover in the center of Athens. Emerging at the central Syntagma Square we stop to see the Greek Parliament building and the ceremony of changing of the National guard in their impressive costume. Next we head through Athens most famous shopping area, the colorful and bustling Ermou street and the ‘Plaka’ market to the site of the Temple of Hephaestus and the ‘ancient agora’ which was the market place of the ancient Athenians. As you walk in their very footsteps, you'll learn how the ancient Greeks would have gathered to trade, exchange news, worship & carry out the street politics of the day.
Finally we come to the boutique Adriano street, lined with many charming neoclassical buildings turned into cafe's & restaurants. Located opposite the Agora and with views to the ancient market site and temple of Hephaestus this area provides the perfect atmosphere to discuss the sights and sounds of the day with friends over dinner or a drink before returning.
