Have lunch before driving to Sarnath where you will learn about Buddha himself, then observe local Ghats while on a relaxing boat cruise.
Start your day with a pick up from your central Varanasi hotel by your private guide. They will give you a traditional Indian-style greeting before assisting you into the vehicle. For your first stop, head to the Vishwanath temple, the holy temple dedicated to lord Shiva. Next, move on to the Bharat Mata temple, or Mother India temple, after driving past Hindu Benaras University. Observe the Durga temple and Sankat Mochan temple, also denoted as “monkey temple” due to it being the home of thousands of monkeys.
Afterwards, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before driving 14km to Sarnath, the holy place of Lord Buddha. In Sarnath under the Bodhi tree, Lord Buddha gave his first sermon in 528 BC, giving rise to the philosophy of Buddhism. Make an optional visit to the local museum that contains carvings from different time periods throughout the history of India, including selections from the archaic, Mathura School, Medieval, Gupta, and more.
In the evening, drive back to Varanasi to see the beautifully lit Ghats and Ganga Aarti as you cruise along the River Ganges. Return to your accommodations at the end of the evening.
