This private day trip will give you memorable insight into the culture and heritage of Sri Lanka. Enjoy Sri Lankan hospitality as you take part in an authentic lunch at a village house. Thereafter, you will visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO world heritage site and a site locals often refer to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World".6:30am: You will be picked up from your hotel in Kandy and driven to do a village trek Hiriwaduna (approx. 3 hours drive).
9:30am: Start your trek with your knowledgeable guide as he/she guides you through a typical Sri Lankan village. It starts with a a walk along a man-made reservoir. The reservoir itself, the surrounding scrub jungle, marshland and village are a hive of early morning or an evening activity. The amazing bird life, butterflies and possible sightings of crocodile only add to the charm of seeing the villagers as they go about their early morning tasks of fishing, or washing clothes at the periphery of the lake.
You will continue your tour with a boat ride and a bullock cart ride up to a village house where you will enjoy an authentic Sri Lankan lunch.
12pm - 1pm - Enjoy lunch at the village house.
After lunch, you will be driven to visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress (approx. 30 minutes drive). 1:30pm- 4:30pm : Explore the rock fortress. Sigiriya is famous for its toadstool of golden-hued granite, protruding into the searing blue sky from a hot, flat wilderness of scrubland. during the rainy seasons, this is transformed into to a water garden. In the 5th century, King Kashyapa domesticated the Lion's Rock by building a palace atop its summit. It now has become one of the most visited historic sites in Sri Lanka.
4:30pm: Leave Sigiriya and drive back to Kandy.
7pm: Drop off at your hotel
