Sigiriya is one of the most valuable historical monuments in Sri Lanka. Referred by locals as the Eighth Wonder of the World, this ancient palace and fortress complex has a significant archaeological importance and attracts thousands of tourists every year. It is probably the most visited tourist destination in Sri Lanka.For this tour, you will be picked up between 6am to 7am from your hotel in Negombo or Colombo and transferred to Sigiriya, about 90 km (55 miles) away. Today, Sigiriya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning and also the most visited historic site in Sri Lanka.
You will visit Sīhāgiri (the Lion Rock) which is an ancient rock fortress that according to the Sri Lankan ancient chronicle, the Culavamsa, the area around Sigiriya was selected by King Kasyapa (477 to 495AD) to be his new capital and built his palace on top of this rock.
Afterward, you will visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla. This breathtakingly beautiful temple is also a World Heritage Site since 1991.
Later, you will visit the Spice Garden as well.
At 5pm, you will stop by Sigiriya or Kandy for some shopping and will then be transferred to your hotel in Sigiriya, Dambulla or Kandy by 9pm. This tour does not return to Colombo.
