The culturally rich town of Tongli is over 1200 years old and has even been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With the rapid modernization of China, a large number of historical towns disappeared under the bulldozers, with only a handful of well preserved historical townships remaining today.
As you make the 2 hour ride to Tongli, look out of your window as you watch the beautiful scenery. Once you arrive, you will see the plethora of gardens located on the islands of Tongli that were established in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Smell the fragrance of flowers that fill the air as you meander through the lush grounds. Follow your guide as they lead you from one island to the next via picturesque bridges. Glancing down the rivers, you will see the locals are riding boats as they go about their daily rituals in a town surrounded and divided by waterways. Then having lunch at the local restaurant.
