Depart your hotel or cruise ship to take a tour to the ancient town of Pompeii. Along the way, stop in places such as Positano to view the landscape and Sorrento to do a little shopping. Accompanied by your driver and private guide, if option selected, you will learn all about these quaint areas, all the while taking in the Mediterranean ambiance.Begin the day with a pickup from your Naples' hotel or the cruise port at 8:30am. While en route to Pompei, stop the visit the ruins for approximately 2-hours. A once-thriving commercial port of 20,000, Pompeii grew from Greek and Etruscan roots to become an important Roman city. Then, on August 24, A.D. 79, everything changed due to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, burying the city in over 30 feet of volcanic ash.
Afterwards, make an hour-long stop in Positano, the Pearl of the Amalfi Coast. This stunning and picturesque area is composed of pastel-colored homes tumbling down towards a deep indigo sea. According to legend, the Greek god Poseidon created Positano for a woman he was infatuated with, Pasitea. On the way back, stop in Sorrento for about an hour. Walk the streets and observe the beautiful olive and lemon groves that are sprinkled around. Feel free to partake in shopping before heading back to your accommodations or ship. Usually return to hotel/Cruise ship by 5/6 pm, unless you asked for a different duration.
