This is Tailor-made activity in the Hutong area (Beijing old neighborhood). During this tour, you will explore the interesting Hutong where you can have some local food and ride on a rickshaw. You will also participate a fun pottery making class.In the morning, your English speaking tour guide will meet you in your hotel lobby, and then take you to the south entrance of Nanluoguxiang Hutong. Nanluogixiang Hutong is one of the earliest Hutong since Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). You will see many traditional style courtyard houses along the alley. Nowadays, the 800-meter long south-north Nanluoguxiang Hutong is lined with numerous trendy bars, tasty restaurants, unique hostels, lively themed stores and itinerant vendors. Its vernacular courtyard houses, grey-colored, accompanied by old trees, showcase the solid books of Beijing's traditional architecture.
Yes! you will attend a pottery class in the Hutong, and you can DIY pottery vases in the studio. This is special highlight for this tour. You will have so much fun there.
After class, you will get on a rickshaw to get through the zigzag and narrow alleys or hutongs. You are very welcome to visit the local family, and your tour guide will assist you with language translation. Meanwile, your tour guide will share the history, layout, Fengshui, culture of the old courtyard ( Siheyuan ) to you. Then, you will have your lunch meal with a local family there.
Your afternoon tour will starts from Drum Tower (built in 1420) where you can enjoy bird's eye view of the surrounding communities of Hutongs and Siheyuan. If lucky, you will have a chance to see the Drum beating show there.
Then, continue your street browsing by walking along Yandai Byway ( Tobacco Pipe Lean Street ), a quaint 800-year-old hutong located between Yinding Bridge and the south of the Drum Tower. It used to be well-known for sellers of long-stemmed pipes in Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), hence the name. Passing through Yinding Bridge (Silver Ingot Bridge) , a narrow channel joining Qianhai Lake and the Houhai Lake, the hub of Shichahai area surrounded by quiet hutongs. Keep walking along the Houhai Lake where was part of the old Grand Canal of the Yuan Dynasty (600 years ago). It is circled by the former palaces of ministers, temples, well-kept Siheyuans (quadrangle) as well as the residences of some celebrities in the past.
You will be transferred back to your hotel in Beijing after the tour is finished.
