Krong Siem Reap, Cambodia

Trip Type:   Private Day Trips
Duration:  1 day
Avoid the crowds whilst exploring the ruins of Angkor with the 'off the beaten track' single day tour of Bantaey Srei area.  You will visit 'The Citadel of Woman' widely regarded as the pinnacle of Ancient Khmer Art with 3D stone carvings set in hard sandstone of the redish-pink hue leaving you with an unforgettable memory of a 'Pink Temple' as it is often called. From the majesty of the distant past we take you to the reality of rural life with a visit to a palm sugar processing plant where you will experience day to day work life and perhaps learn about a sugar widely used in the region. Enjoy a relaxed local style lunch of mango or papaya salad, main dish and local fruit before heading off to a quiet alternative to the more famous Ta Phrom at Prasat Banteay Kdei, finally finishing up the day in a perfect way with the sunset at Tonle Sap.

Enjoy a relaxed local style lunch of mango or papaya salad, main dish and local fruit before heading off to a quiet alternative to the more famous Ta Phrom at Prasat Banteay Kdei, finally finishing up the day in a perfect way with the sunset at Tonle Sap.Start at your hotel around 9 am, and stopping off to get temple passes if necessary:

Banteay Srei ប្រាសាទបន្ទាយស្រី is 37km from Siem Reap city & widely regarded as the most beautiful temple in the Angkor area. You have an hour to wander around the Citadel of Women construction if which began during the reign of Rajendravarman II and probably overseen by perhaps even commissioned by the Brahmin Yajnavaraha. Sometimes referred to as the Pink Temple you will see many fine sculptures, some 3D in stone of a reddish-pink hue which have been well preserved by the hardness of the sandstone.

After reflecting on the depth of culture and history of the past, see daily life and work in action at a nearby palm sugar processing plant and ask as many questions as you like before heading off for lunch at Srah Srang ស្រះស្រង់) where you can expect to spend less than $10 for either al-a-carte or set the menu which includes a local mango or papaya salad, a main dish followed by fresh fruit.

Begin the afternoon at Prasat Banteay Kdei ប្រាសាទបន្ទាយក្តី formerly a university around the 12th century; it is similar to the more popular and much more crowded Ta Prohm and Preah Khan, and as a bonus it is in better condition. The final temple before sunset is Banteay Samré ប្រាសាទបន្ទាយសំរែ a fairly complete complex with an interior moat.

Finally, end the day in the perfect way by watching the sunset over Tonle Sap or Phnom Krom at a quiet place of your choice, before returning to your hotel around 7:30 pm.

This tour is your own customized tour so minor changes to either the destinations, departure times or duration at each location, is quite possible.
