All the way to village Gudani picturesque mountainous landscape changes due to ascending to Datvisjvari pass (2.676 m) that is distinguished with spectacular views surround area.
Chaukhi mount range from south-west and Tebulo mount from north-east. After brief instructions from your guide you’ll face 22km descent from Datvisjvari pass through deep Arguni gorge surrounding by high mountains to Shatili Castle passing village Kistani tower and old villages, sheep herds and pure mountain springs. Surrounding huge field areas from June till end of August are covered with colorful flowers of the season.
Afterwards, visit of Shatili that is located in the deep Arghuni gorge at approximate 1,400 meters. The village is actually a rare complex of medieval fortresses and fortified dwellings of stone and mortar which functioned both as a residential area and a fortress guarding the north-eastern outskirts of the country. The fortress consists of the terraced structures dominated by flat-roofed dwellings and some 60 towers which cluster together creates a single chain of fortifications.
After visiting of Shatili, tour continues to ancient villages Mutso and Ardoti Castles (18 km) after crossing little river stream. Mutso Castle is located on a rocky mountain (1880 m) on the right bank of the Andakistskali river.
The villages, almost completely abandoned more than a century ago. Nowadays, they are home of approximately 30 medieval fortified dwelling units arranged on vertical terraces above the Mutso-Ardoti gorge, four combat towers and ruins of several old structures and buildings.
Ardoti is the last destination of your challenge and after that adventurous cycling experience you can drive back to Tbilisi with memorable impressions.
