Join your host Nithia in her Singapore apartment for a cooking demonstration and in-home meal. Experience authentic Singaporean life with Nithia and cuisines that reflect a mix of cultures as you cook her favorite family recipes and eat a delicious, traditional meal. Leave with new recipes, an appreciation of Singaporean culture, and lifelong memories.
Nithia is a Singaporean of Sri Lankan and South Indian heritage and was educated in the UK. Her cooking style reflects the mix of cultures she inhabits in her daily life, relying on South Indian and Sri Lankan dishes, Singaporean favorites and South East Asian flavors. Nithia lives with her mother in a comfortable apartment in a residential neighborhood outside of central Singapore. Her home is decorated with care and filled with the aromas of her cooking.
Having lived overseas for many years, Nithia can provide expert guidance on how to substitute ingredients that might be difficult to find in your home grocery store. She loves experimenting with new cuisines and ingredients and even runs a small supper club that organizes themed dinner events. She is a passionate supporter of the arts and can give recommendations on events that are occurring during your visit. When she's not in the kitchen, Nithia works as a freelance marketing communications professional.
Join Nithia in her kitchen to learn to prepare an authentic Singaporean-Indian meal. In your hands-on cooking lesson you will learn to prepare 2-3 dishes, which will be served with other dishes that Nithia prepared in advance. You can expect your cooking lesson to last about 1.5 - 2 hours.
After leaving the kitchen, enjoy the meal you helped prepare with Nithia at her table. The menu will include traditional Indian dishes, prepared in the Sri Lankan and Singaporean styles. She might serve her Sri Lankan chicken curry, prawns cooked with green chilies and coriander, fish head curry (a classic Singaporean-Indian dish), laksa, or Malay dishes such as nasi lemak (coconut rice served with a variety of garnishes) or Malay curries such as rendang. She is adept at vegetarian cuisine and can also do stir fry vegetable dishes and local noodle dishes.
Please note, this is not a professional cooking class, rather this experience is a visit into an authentic, local home to meet a local person and share the culture and cuisine together.
