After admiring the Sorrento Coast, the trip continues to the Marine Protected Area of Punta Campanella, with its Baia di Ieranto and the Syrenusas archipelago (also known as Li Galli Island). Here you can swim in crystal waters and enjoy the pristine beauty of the nature. This Protected Area finishes at the extremity of the coast with the Punta Campanella, where the Greeks built a temple in honor of Goddes Atena.
Today there are the ruins of the Minerva Tower: in the past there was a small bell, “campanella”, that gave the alarm in case of pirates raids.
The tower is the most important of the several ones that you can see along the Sorrento Coast. In the Protected Area is possible to see the broad presence of floral species belonging to the Mediterranean sea and the fauna richness make of this site a place of considerable environmental value. The spectacular variety of the nature results from a particular phenomenon called up-welling: the sea currents let the deepest water to go up bringing to the surface a lot of minerals that triggers an enriched biological cycle.
Inside the Marine Protected Area there is a tiny archipelago of three rocky an lonely isles. They mirror themselves in the limpid sea of the Protected Area of Punta Campanella. According to the old legend, they were inhabited by the sirens, from which the archipelago brings its name. In effect the ancient Greek iconography represents the sirens as a bird with human face and not as a being half woman and half fish.
These isles have their own natural charm and over time several celebrities have taken refuge on them.
After refreshing dips in this beautiful sea you have a light lunch with sandwiches and drinks. During the come-back trip you will enjoy a pleasant and relaxing afternoon breeze. There is the flexibility to customize your itinerary to your preference, but it is important to know that the boat trip is subject to favorable weather conditions.
