Embark with a local captain who will show you the highlights of the area while you bypass the tourist crowds and enjoy a private, relaxing day.Begin the day by cruising along the Sorrento Coastline, with Mt. Vesuvius looming over the bay, standing at nearly 4000 feet high. The Sorrento Coastline features inlets, crumbling towers, and deep gorges that accentuate its vast beauty.
Upon arriving in Capri, the captain will cruise past breathtaking island views. The island has been a coastal resort since the days of the Roman Empire and is a popular summer destination.
While the island is typically crowded, its true beauties are the grottos and rock formations that are experienced from the sea. Cruise along to the Blue Grotto, a cave is famous for its bright blue waters.
Other notable grottos are the Green, White and Coral as well as the Faraglioni Rock Formations, which are an important landmark. These three massive rocks are each about 100 meters high. The smallest rock, known as “Scopolo,” is home to the famous blue lizard, said only to be located on this very rock.
Once you have experienced the best of the island from the sea, the captain will cruise over to the Gulf of Salerno where you will have the opportunity to visit the Amalfi Coast's best kept secret- Nerano. Nerano is a characteristic fishing village that features several beachside restaurants. This is a favorite to stop for a mid-afternoon lunch before heading to Positano.
After lunch explore one of the more notable sights of this excursion, Li Galli Islands. These legendary islands are famed for Homer’s Sirens that tempted Ulysses in “The Odyssey.” Enjoy a swim here if you wish.
From Li Galli you will cruise to Positano. The view of Positano from the sea is one of the most famous in the world. You will have time at your leisure in Positano, a village which includes dozens of fine local shops. Notable attractions in Positano include the Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, a historic church with a vast dome created in the 1920’s.
The day will end back in Sorrento unless otherwise indicated.
