Cuandixia, which means stove in Chinese, is a Ming village built between 1403 to 1424. Cuandixia Village has a history spanning more than 500 years and contains about 70 well-preserved courtyard homes and houses approximately 30 families.
Known for its gorgeous courtyard homes and old-world charm, Cuandixia Village has been a popular location for Chinese filmmakers. Many famous actors and directors, such as Jet Li and Zhang Yi Mou (director of the opening ceremony of 2008 Olympics), have been there to shoot movies. A delicious and authentic Chinese lunch will be served in one of the best restaurants in the village.
After lunch, take a scenic drive back to downtown Beijing to visit Liulichang Culture Street to admire its Qing-style architecture, antiques and artwork. Liulichang is one of Beijing’s traditional old quarters, known for its traditional Chinese Stone houses. Shops containing ancient books, calligraphy, paintings, rubbings, ink stones and antiques line this popular street. Watch local painters and Chinese master calligraphers creating their artwork before your eyes. Conclude the tour by returning to your centrally located hotel in Beijing around 5pm.
