Meet your guide at 8:30am and start the tour from Tian’anmen Square which witnessed hundreds years of Chinese history. On Oct. 1st, 1949, Chairman Mao stood in the middle the Tian’anmen Gate and proclaimed the founding of new China. Ever since then, the Square has been the symbol and center of China, as well as a must-see for any visitors to Beijing.

Proceed north to see the Forbidden City, commonly called Palace Museum or Gugong by the Chinese people. It was built from 1406 and served as the imperial residence for 24 emperors of Ming and Qing dynasties. Having been off-limits to commoners for centuries, it was converted into a museum and opened to the public in 1925 as a public museum. Instead of walking along the central axis taken by most tour groups, you will have the opportunity to see some hidden parts of the Forbidden City. For example, going up the newly opened 10 meter high wall to have a walk around with a bird’s eye view of the countless rooms; getting inside the Watchtower and Eastern Gate, two of the few buildings visitors could get inside in the Forbidden City; visiting the Horologe and Treasure rooms, a collection of exquisite clocks and exhibits of various themes like jewelry, jade, gold respectively; seeing the Qianlong garden, built for the abdicated Qing emperor Qianlong; visiting the Grand Theatre, a place for the Empress Dowager Cixi to enjoy her favorite Peking Opera, as well as getting inside several other rooms to see the bedroom of her and the 25 Imperial seals.

Relax and enjoy the Imperial Cuisine in Fangshan Restaurant, a century old establishment located in the oldest imperial park in Beijing. After lunch, you will be transferred to the Purple Bamboo Park to get on a canopy boat from Zizhuyuan Park to cruise to the Summer Palace. With a history of more than 700 years, the Imperial Waterway was first dug by Kublai Khan during the Yuan Dynasty. It was used exclusively by the Qing emperors and Empress Dowager Cixi on their way to the Summer Palace with many historical sites en route.

See the main attractions of the Summer Palace, including the working and living quarters of the emperor and empress; the Long Corridor, the longest covered walkway with 14,000 exquisitely painted pictures; Longevity Hill, the best place to have a panoramic view of the Summer Palace; Marble Boat, the iconic building of the Summer Palace representing the stability and eternity of the Qing Dynasty; take a small boat to the Suzhou Street, which was used by the emperor to enjoy shopping.

Get on the fastest lift in Beijing to enjoy a panoramic view of the city on the Observation Deck located in the upper part of the 405 meters high Central TV Tower. Then relax on the way back your hotel.
