Gubeikou Great Wall is located in Miyun County, 120 kilometers away from downtown Beijing. It is composed of two parts: The main part of the Gubeikou Wall was first built in the Ming Dynasty 1368 A.D., while the other part was built in the Beiqi Dynasty 550 A.D.. This section is the most intact and well preserved, original section of all the sections in Beijing. Your professional trek guide will come to pick you up between 7:00 am to 8:00am at your hotel lobby with your private car and driver. Then, you will be transferred to the Gubeikou Great Wall directly (2.5 hours driving time). Once upon arrival, you will walk through a small village and farmland before ascending the Gubeikou Great Wall. After 3 to 4 hours hiking, you will reach the 24-hole Guard Tower, where is the highest place of this section. You will take your lunch break here (sandwich for lunch), and enjoy the amazing view. In additional, you will find the vicissitude of history along the way, such as the bullet holes and damages on the Towers will take you back to the 1930s. Your tour guide will share with about some part of history prior to the second Sino-Japanese War.
After lunch, you will continue walk towards West 5-Hole Guard Tower (Xi Wuyanlou) where you will wait and see the beautiful Sunset. After Sun goes down, continue your walk to Zhuanduokou, and you will get out of Wall from here. Then, check in at your accommodation (about 10 minutes away from the Great Wall by foot), and have a nice Chinese dinner meal.
Day 2: (B, L)
Follow your guide to see the Sunrise at 4:00am (1 hour walking time), and you will come back to the hotel/home stay for breakfast. After check out, you will go on the Jinshanling Great Wall, a complicated and well preserved fortification systems and possesses the largest number of watchtowers. These watchtowers (5-8 meters height) were made by huge bricks, and each one built in a different architectural style. You will see one by one everyone 50 to 100 meters. Some of them are half-timbered, some are stone, some with one eave, some with two-eave. The roofs of the towers are many and varied, flat, arched, quadrangular or octagonal. There is a powerful military defense system in Jinshanling Great Wall including barrier walls, crib walls, blockhouses, emplacements,watch-towers, stone-shooting windows, arrow-shooting holes, cavalry defense walls and so on, which making it easier to defend. When you stand on the Jinshanling Great Wall, you will appreciate how majestic and splendid it is.
Then, you will hike towards the Simatai Great Wall direction for another 3 hours, and you will see the East 5-hole Guard Tower. If you want to hike further, you can carry on for 800 meters more and come back. Then you will start to go down from the Wall, and you will have a nice lunch meal before you heading back to Beijing. The estimate time for arriving your Beijing hotel is between 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
