Visit the interiors of 4 buildings at the Prague Castle with a Czech guide - from the first courtyard to the Golden Lane. Enjoy personal attention from your guide on this private small-group tour.Your guide will typically meet you at your hotel 15 minutes prior to the beginning of your tour (or another departure point you agree on). Your tour is a private tour with only your group. From your hotel you'll ride on public transportation (at your own expense) to Prague Castle. Please keep in mind that the entrance fee (250 CZK/person) to Prague Castle are not included and you will have to pay for this at your expense upon arrival. You'll walk through the first courtyard to the ramp to see Prague below you. You won´t want to miss this scenic point as it will give you a magnificent view over the city. You'll be able to experience the changing of the guard at the main gate which is simply a thing you must see. Your guide will always explain what you see, what happened at the specific place of the castle, and will also add personal stories and explanations about the current political situations in the Czech Republic.
Your next stop is the magnificent St. Vitus Cathedral, which is one of the most sacred houses in the whole country. You'll learn about the 1000 year development - there is the new and the old part. You'll learn about when the cathedral was finished and why - it may surprise you but definitely something you'll want to know.
From the cathedral you'll continue to the second courtyard to see the former main gate into the cathedral - the Golden Gate. Opposite is the New Castle is now the office of the Czech President. You'll enter the Old Royal Palace nearby and see Vladislav Hall. Learn for what purposes the great hall is used for today and what happened in the wing and window above the moat in 1618. This is where the 30 year war (1618-1648) which brought despair, hunger and ongoing battles to Europe began.
Next stop, you'll have the option to stop for a coffee break in one of the cafés at the Prague Castle (at own expense). You'll continue to the St. George Basilica and lastly to the Golden Lane. A small street in the hidden corner by the fortification wall. Here you will find picturesque houses in which people actually lived until 20th century. You will also see the prison that housed the harshest criminals. You'll see the torture chamber and tools. In the fortification wall is a museum of armor, weapons, and swords. Here you will have free time to discover it all by yourself. This will conclude your tour. If you wish, you can choose to stay at the Prague Castle longer and get directions from your tour guide for your return to the Metro Station or City Center.
