After morning hotel pickup from Playa del Carmen by minivan, travel with your guide to Rancho San Felipe, a local Maya community made up of only 30 inhabitants. Watch a traditional purification ceremony performed by a shaman before you follow your guide on a short trek into the jungle.
Reach the Sac Actun cenote system, the world’s longest underground river system, recommended by National Geographic for excellent snorkeling and cave diving. Explore the labyrinth of caves, and arrive at Nohoch Nah Chich, a cavern studded with stalagmites and stalactites. With your provided snorkeling gear, take a refreshing dip in the pool of water and swim around the unusual rock formations.
Outside the caves, jump into a Mercedes-Benz Unimog, your sturdy 4x4 transport, for a jarring and exciting ride through the rainforest. Stop to make a 40-foot (12-meter) rappel down to Yaxmuul, a natural underground pool, and fly through the treetops along three ziplines, ending with a splash into a cenote.
After all that activity, relax and refuel with a buffet lunch of traditional Maya cuisine. Then board your air-conditioned minivan for the trip back to Playa del Carmen. Your tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel in the afternoon.
