Vineyards, rainforest and ecological beauty abound on this tour. We visit several top wineries, enjoy a great lunch and see beautiful views through the Waitakere Ranges and visit tranquil Piha, and Karekare, two gems in Auckland's crown. The Henderson Valley is the historical heartland of the Auckland wine industry with Piha and Karekare the two of the finest jewels in Auckland’s crown. We start the day by visiting Babich Wines. The Babich family have been making wine since 1916 and now export over 90% of what they produce around the world.
You can try a range of wines grown on their vineyards in Hawkes Bay as well as varietals including Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc sourced from Marlborough.
We then head up into the stunning Waitakere Ranges and drop in to the Arataki visitors center for stunning elevated views of this rain forest reserve. The remote West Coast black sand surf beach settlement of Piha is next, we take a drive around this amazing little community.
Then visit Karekare ( where the beautiful film "The Piano" was filmed ) and see the beautiful Karekare waterfalls in a tranquil quintessential New Zealand native forest setting. After a 50 minute drive through rain forest and farmland we stop to enjoy an open menu one course lunch with Tea Coffee at Provenance Cafe.
After lunch we stop at WestBrook Wines located in the Ararimu Valley. They produce outstanding Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc in the whites and Estate grown Pinot Noir and Malbec in the reds. Our last visit takes us to Kumeu River Wines where we taste Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and some of the best Chardonnay in the country from this world class family estate.
