The Panama Canal, a true engineering marvel, awaits you on this partial tour of the Panama Canal which lasts approximately 5 to 6 hours. You will navigate though the locks at Miraflores and Pedro Miguel, living the experience of the raising and lowering of the boat above and below sea level. The tour begins at Gamboa at the northern entrance of the Corte Culebra (Snake Pass), named as such because the curves in the canal resemble a snake. This is the point where the Chagres River empties into the canal and this is one of the most interesting points of the pass as it was constructed crossing the Continental Divide, giving it significance both historically and geologically. The boat will navigate the entire 14 kilometers that make up the pass on your voyage to the locks at Pedro Miguel. At this location you will be able to observe the work that is being done to expand the Panama Canal.
Before arriving at the Pedro Miguel Locks in the southern part of the Corte Culebra, you will pass underneath the very modern Centenario Bridge that crosses the Panama Canal. Once arriving at the Pedro Miguel Locks the boat will descend 9 meters down to the level of Miraflores Lake, a small fresh-water lake that separates the two Pacific side locks of the Canal. You will navigate across Miraflores lake where you will see the Miraflores Locks, at which point you will again descend, this time for a total of 18 meters in two stages. Finalizing this last decent the ship arrives at the waters of the Pacific Ocean, you will have the opportunity to experience the descent of the boat as it is trapped between the locks that close, allowing the waters to empty into the pacific ocean leaving the ship at sea level.
In Miraflores you will have the opportunity to live the experience of watching dozens of the other ship pass by.
After passing through the Miraflores Locks the boat will travel on to the Pacific Ocean. You will pass under the historic Bridge of the Americas, one of the longest on the continent at 1.6 kilometers of longitude.
The boat will sail on to the Flamenco Marina or to La Playita (Amador Causeway) where all passengers will disembark. It is truly one the most impacting tours in the entire world.
