Medieval mafia, saints and sinners: the characters of Palermo have always been a colorful bunch. Hear stories about the individuals who left their mark on the city, and explore Mercato di Capo, Piazza Beati Paoli, Cathedral Square and more on this small-group walking tour. Meet your guide near Palermo’s city gate of Porta Carini, and head through Mercato di Capo, one of the most colorful places in the city. Pass merchants vying for attention and locals jostling for produce, as you learn about the market from your guide.

Check out a pupa ru Capo, a mosaic of a beautiful woman, where the beloved Italian saint of St Rita is said to appear, and stroll to Piazza Beati Paoli. Hear about the medieval sect who once met in the square, and learn how they’ve been likened to modern-day mafia.

Move to Cathedral Square to see a statue of Santa Rosalia, Palermo’s patron saint. Listen to her story over a glass of local zibibbo in an old tavern, and hear more tales of other local characters, such as Duke Cagliostro who tricked royal families with magical powers.

Finish with a walk through the so-called Cortile delle Fate ("Square of the Faeries"), where men are said to have disappeared in the night, and then bid your guide ‘ciao’ at Piazza Bologni.

Please note: the order of the activities as described above may be subject to change on the day of the tour.
