The Palatine Gallery offers a comprehensive overview of mainly 17th century European painting, displaying famous works by Titian, Raphael, Rubens, Van Dyck, Murillo, Caravaggio, Frans Pourbus, and Velazquez, among others. Exceptional older works by Bronzino, Fra Bartolomeo, Piero del Pollaiolo, and Filippo Lippi are also on view.
The Gallery of Modern Art opened its doors in 1924 in the apartments occupied by the royal family until 1920. Today, these 30 rooms are filled with masterpieces of Italian painting, Tuscan Neoclassicism, Naturalism, and the Tuscan Impressionist school, known as the Macchiaioli.
