Discover the scenic natural beauty of the Otago Peninsula on a half-day excursion from Dunedin. See the Chasm and Lovers Leap rock formations on a guided hike along the coast. Explore a nature reserve where you look for native wildlife like New Zealand fur seals and yellow-eyed penguins. The small-group tour, limited to 9 people, ensures a personalized experience with your guide. After pickup from your Dunedin hotel or the cruise port, travel by comfortable minivan to one of the most beautiful and remote areas of the Otago Peninsula. Your guide provides informative commentary about the wildlife and geography of the peninsula as you drive down scenic roads and stop for photo ops.

Arrive at the coast where you follow your guide on a leisurely 2.5-mile (4 kilometer) hike along a coastal track. Take in a landscape of windswept trees growing on a rugged coast dotted with rock formations such as the Chasm, a tall basalt column, and a natural rock bridge best viewed from the Lovers Leap lookout point. The track continues through native bush then down a 650-foot (200 meter) sand dune, the largest in the Otago region, to arrive at the beach.

Your guide welcomes you into a private hut where you can take in amazing views while snacking on light refreshments. Although there are no guarantees, often New Zealand fur seals, sea lions and yellow-eyed penguins come ashore in this area. Your guide shares fascinating facts about the marine life found along the Otago Peninsula as you soak up the coastal views.

After enjoying your snack and rest stop at the hut, stroll along the beach to return to your minivan. The return journey to Dunedin takes about 20 minutes and your guide returns you to your starting point at the end of your tour.
