A great escape from Beijing with this small group adventure! Great Wall at Mutianyu used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and imperial tombs in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). This section is surrounded by woodland and streams, it is a section restored in early 1980s. The trip will finish 12 densely placed towers with a total length of 1.5 miles in 2.5 hours. Meet you up at a location in central Beijing around 8am and drive to a village near Mutianyu, which will take about 1.5 hours. You will start the hiking around 9:30 am, and it will take about 2.5 hours to complete the hike the total 1.5 miles. Along the 12 watchtowers on the hike, the route of the first 7 watchtowers are the not renovated and untouched section, it's not not that easy comparing to the last 5 ones. Once you reach the restored part the Wall, you will find it’s easier to walk. You have the option to take toboggan during the downhill hike, but please note the cost is on your own.

A lunch at a local restaurant will be organized after the hiking before returning the city.

Mutianyu offers a wonderfully satisfying experience to enjoy the view of Great Wall of China. It has superb scenery, dense vegetation and many fine watchtowers. The brickwork is elaborate, with crenellations on both sides and finely curved eaves on some watch-tower roofs. There are decorative gables with animal statues, and tablets bearing calligraphy above some entrances.
