Welcome to Samarkand, the famous capital of the 14th century Timurid Empire. Samarkand is one of the oldest inhabited cities in Central Asia, prospering from its location on the Silk Road between China and the Mediterranean. You will be picked up at 7:15am from your hotel in Tashkent and transferred to the railway station to catch an 8am Afrosiyob high-speed train departing for Samarkand which will arrive in Samarkand at 10:30am. Your local tour guide and driver will meet you upon arrival and show you some of the most popular attractions in Samarkand:

  • Gur-Emir Mausoleum - Burial place of Amir Temur and his dynasty
  • Registan Square (15th-17th Century) – the heart of Samarkand, consisting of 3 madrassahs: Madrassah Uughbek, MadrassahTillakari and Madrassah Sherdar
  • Bibi Khanum Mosque - named in honor of the eldest wife of Great Timur (14th Century)
  • Lunch
  • Shahi-Zinda necropolis (12th-15th Century) - burial place of Kusamibn ibn Abbas, cousin to the prophet Muhammad
  • Ulugbek Observatory - the biggest observatory, built by Ulugbek (15th Century).
You will return to the railway station at 4:30pm to catch a 5pm high-speed train departing for Tashkent and and arrive in Tashkent at 7:40pm. You will be transfer to your hotel in Tashkent upon arrival.
