After a pick-up from your Shanghai hotel, you will be transferred to the Shanghai airport where you will catch a flight to Beijing. There, your local guide/driver will be waiting for you and will transport you by private, air-conditioned vehicle to begin your full-day tour of China’s capital city.
Your sightseeing tour of the Beijing city area begins at the Temple of Heaven, the largest ancient imperial worship-architecture-group in the world, where the ancient Emperors prayed for peace and harvest. The visit to the Temple of Heaven will take about one hour.
After lunch you will visit Tiananmen Square, framed by the Gate of Heavenly Peace with its portrait of Mao Zedong, Mao's Mausoleum, the Great Hall of the People and the National Museum. Hear an overview from your guide about China's communist history as you explore Tiananmen's grounds, halls and monuments.
From here, enjoy a short walk to the Forbidden City and its Imperial Palace Museum, with a peek at each Chinese dynasty represented in four palatial halls. See ancient treasures, documenting thousands of years of history in this former home of China’s imperial rulers. Admire the maze of palaces, gardens and stunning courtyards as your guide informs you about China’s imperial history.
You will then take a rickshaw, and you can relax as your driver weaves through the ancient narrow lanes, also known as Beijing’s Hutong. The Hutong has captured traditional Beijing’s essence, and offers a unique look into Beijing´s city life.
Then you will transfer to the airport for your return flight. You will be greeted on arrival in Shanghai and driven safely back to your hotel just in time for a good night’s sleep.
