Explore the north side of Mauritius and its history and culture by visiting the Sugar World Museum, a converted sugar factory that’s now an intriguing homage to Mauritius’ ties to the sugar trade. Then visit Grand Bay, the so-called St Tropez of Mauritius. This guided full-day tour then breaks for lunch before continuing to the Chapel of Cap Malheureux and finally, one of the island's most striking colonial mansions, Le Chateau de Labourdonnais.
Get picked up at your hotel, meet your guide and go directly to the intriguing Sugar World Museum, as the guide tells historical anecdotes about Mauritius. Once there, explore the interactive museum, a converted sugar factory, to learn about the historical importance of sugar and how it was made. Don’t forget to take home a sweet souvenir from the gift shop.
From saccharine to stylish, pull into Grand Bay, a charming seaside town that has been compared to St Tropez. Wander the streets, popping into boutiques and cafes, chatting with the friendly locals or walking along the emerald green shoreline. Take about an hour for lunch here (own expense).
Post lunch, drive to Chapel of Cap Malheureux and gawk at this red-roofed church located at one of the most northern points on the island. After a brief stop, head to Le Chateau de Labourdonnais, a beautiful colonial mansion from the mid 19th century. On the grounds there’s also a verdant garden, a distillery and a boutique.
After a tour of the mansion, hop back on the comfortable shuttle to get dropped off at your hotel.
