From mythology and old scripts we know that scientists and people have wonderedabout green lines over the skies for thousands of years. In northern countries, the effect is known as the Aurora Borealis, named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for north wind, Boreas. The Eskimos believe that they are the souls of animals. Some even believe that the auroras dance closer to the those who are watching them, that they will envelop you, and take you to the heavens. Many believe that its a sign that the spirits of their loved ones are still close and are watching over them always.

From Reykjavik we will be hunting the Northern Lights in the west of Iceland, passing Borgarnes town. But it is the weather that will guide our way. Heading to the east of Reykjavik we can often see the Northern Lights in the Arborg area or even deeper in land near Geyser and the valley of Haukdal and Thingvellir National Park. In some cases the weather will direct us elsewhere, where we can find the northern lights in Reykjanes area up to 60km south from Reykjavik.
