Make your way to the town of Haleiwa on Oahu’s North Shore, located an approximate 1-hour drive from Waikiki. Your expert instructor provides all the necessary equipment (including paddleboard, paddle and use of surf shirt) and tailors your 2-hour SUP lesson to your skill and fitness level. With only one to three other students per instructor, you’ll receive plenty of individualized attention.

On the shore, receive a safety briefing and detailed instruction on how to stand, steer your paddle correctly and maneuver your board. Then test your balance as you practice paddling around the smooth waters of a protected cove where the Pacific Ocean meets the Anahulu River.

Paddling along the calm river, sheltered from ocean waves, follow your guide in search of local marine life, including tropical fish and sea turtles, and take in the lush landscape of the North Shore. You’ll get quite a workout with this popular alternative to surfing or kayaking.

You have several options available for morning, midday or afternoon:
  • Small-group lesson limited to four students per instructor; ages 8 and older
  • Semi-private lesson limited to two students per instructor; no age restriction
  • Private family lesson limited to three students per instructor; no age restriction; large families are welcome
