Meet your guide and small-group at White Sands Beach where you board your air-conditioned minivan for a short drive to the kayak launching site. En route, your minivan passes landmarks such as the former US Air Force base, the Governor's Office, the airport, the John Glenn space capsule, the courthouse, clock tower, and salt ponds. You may even see wild donkeys and horses!
When you reach North Creek, your guide provides you with kayak gear and a paddling lesson. Kayaking is fun and easy to learn, just follow your guide’s instructions and feel free to ask questions at any time. Once you have been oriented to the kayak, hop on board for a tour through the mangroves.
As you paddle along clear turquoise waters, your guide points out a variety of plants, birds, fish, and even the Cassiopea, also known as the upside-down jellyfish. Learn about the importance of the mangroves to the island’s ecosystem as you explore this stunning area.
If you want to bring your camera, mobile phone, or other electronic devices, they will need to go in a waterproof bag to protect them from water splashing into the kayak. You can snap some great photos from the kayak, but be careful with your gear!
After kayaking for about 90 minutes, head back to shore where you can dry off (it is recommended to bring dry clothing and a towel). Then return by minivan to your starting point to end your tour.
