Step aboard the MY Ibra, a splendid modern version of a traditional Arabian dhow. Fitted out in elegant style, this lovely vessel recalls all the charm of its old-world counterparts that once carried goods on the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean.

Settle on the spacious open deck just as the sun starts to dip behind the Hajar Mountains. With guests limited to 30, you’ll find it easy to secure a private spot yet still enjoy plenty of space.

As you sail northward past Oman’s craggy shores, enjoy a complimentary glass of bubbles or juice and water, and nibble on fresh dates and nuts. Soda is also available to purchase from the onboard bar (own expense).

Keep your camera ready to snap the scenery as you pass rocky headlands, deserted bays and the villages of Qantab and Sidab, both only accessible by sea until relatively recently.

Cruise into old Muscat harbor past the 16th-century forts of Jalali and Mirani, both of them still guarding over His Majesty Sultan Qaboos’ grand Al Alam Palace. Gaze up at the steep cliffs to see the ship names daubed on the rocks, before sailing on to Muttrah harbor. Here, admire the views over the Corniche before your ship turns and sails back along the coast.

As dusk falls, take your last photos of the sunset-washed cliffs, making sure you capture the magic of an Arabian evening from the water.

After around two hours, arrive at the marina, where your experience comes to an end.
